The first thing to be done is to make sure the leito is dry and well drained. The main function of the base is to absorb the loads carried by the pavement so, the portante capacity is one of the factors which deserves greater attention. Posterior to digging to the capacity established in the project, the site must be compacted before receiving a base and an under base, besides having all the organic material removed. The sub base must be compacted to prevent recalques resulting from the first requirements on the floor. In case there are no structural recommendations, the layer should be about 10 to 15 centimeters thick. It is not convenient to extend sub bases in temperatures below 2ºC. Besides that, the time lapse between the preparation and the compacting should not exceed 60 minutes. Covering the sub base, the base must be done in sand, exempt from contaminants, especially of organic order, and it must undergo a compacting process. Usually, this layer is analyzed through the modified Proctor method, reaching a density of at least 95%, and in cases where transit is intense, 100% could be reached. In some countries it is used to cover the base with a coat of betume de cura rápida ou de emulsão betuminosa. Average floor thickness for each type of transit
